The number of coronavirus infections in Jyväskylä has remained stable. Last week, 12 new infections were detected, the same as the 12 infections over the previous week. In Week 19, 8 infections were detected. The incidence rate in the city is now 15.6 cases per 100,000 population.

Nearly 150 people quarantined in connection with Kuokkala Comprehensive School – overall coronavirus situation in Jyväskylä still calm

Nearly 150 people have been ordered to quarantine from 4 and 5 April due to possible exposure to the coronavirus at Kuokkala Comprehensive School. The chain of transmission in question was uncovered during Easter. After an intensive tracing and calling operation the families of all pupils thought to have been exposed have now been reached. All those exposed will be directed to coronavirus testing.

On 22 March 2021, the City of Jyväskylä celebrates its 184th birthday. The traditional events of the Jyväskylä Days will be held this year largely remotely due the coronavirus situation.

On 17 December The Regional State Administrative Agency for Western and Inland Finland issued an order that the number of participants in public events should be limited to 10 people as of 22 December. The City of Jyväskylä continues to tackle coronavirus testing backlog and recommends that people wear face masks on public transport and at mass gatherings

The government and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) have recently issued new recommendations on face mask use. Under the new rules, face masks are to be worn on public transport and while attending a coronavirus testing facility. THL has ruled that face masks are not suitable for children, and the guidance on face coverings applies to people aged 15 and over. The City of Jyväskylä additionally recommends that people wear face masks while attending large gatherings involving people who have travelled there from a number of different areas and if social distancing cannot be observed.
