The aim of the event is to highlight both experienced guitarists and talented performers who have so far remained behind the scenes.
The final of the competition will be held at Jyväskylä's Veturitallit on April 25, 2026, where the jury will select ten finalists in advance. In the final, the performers will be evaluated by a jury consisting of three professional musicians.
Applications for the competition will open on February 27, 2026. The application form will be published on the websites of Jyväskylä Veturitallit and Jyväskylä City Youth Services.
Talented performers on stage
Elias Suhonen from Jyväskylä, who came up with the idea for the competition, explains:
"The idea for the competition came from the fact that similar competitions have been organized in recent years in rap music circles in the form of freestyle. Modern social media culture seems to be bringing talent to the screen, but now it's time to bring that talent to the stage. Having followed young musicians and bands myself, I felt that there could be a demand for this kind of competition.
Seppo Pohjolainen, youth worker for the city of Jyväskylä, adds:
"This is a unique opportunity for young musical talents, and what better place than Veturitallit, where we also organize Musamessut. And the new event fits in nicely with the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of youth work in the city of Jyväskylä.
The competition is organized by the City of Jyväskylä Youth Services in collaboration with Musikantti and Musamaailma, which are responsible for the event prizes and act as exhibitors.
